Bill originated the National GPS Certification Program after writing a GPS curriculum package for Ontario’s Ministry of Education. With the rise and application of technology – particularly GPS - he saw the need to make more people aware of the relationship between the map, the compass and the GPS unit. With the increased use of GPS Bill says, “Everyone and every thing will be spatially located in a data base management system, like GIS…”
He teaches senior geography and outdoor/experiential education at Nipissing University’s Faculty of Education and geomatics at Canadore College. He was part of Dr. John Theberge’s long running wolf study in and around Algonquin Park. He provided the vision for the Canadian Ecology Centre in 1999, where he remains as the General Manager, www.canadianecology.ca. He has degrees and diplomas from Durham College, McMaster University and Laurentian University(Nipissing College). He has authored a number of books and thematic maps.
